From: HTS St. Lucia
By Carmy Joseph
Taj Weekes was in St. Lucia last week for the world-wide premier of his latest single and video. Weekes appeared on Radio 100’s Kwase Session with Russell Lake on Friday to release the single entitled “Rain Rain.” Although Weekes and his band Adowa are currently based in the United States – he thought it would be a good idea to launch the single at home. He says “Rain Rain” makes reference to recent destruction faced by humanity and how humans tend to forget about some incidents too quickly. Weekes makes reference to recent tragedies such as Katrina and earthquake ravished Haiti.
Weekes is lamenting the lack of airplay given to St. Lucian artists. He says the airwaves are dominated by artistes from within and outside the region. Weekes who last year was cited for a Grammy – the first Saint Lucian to receive that honour – says Saint Lucian artistes get more exposure in the US and Europe than in their own country. Weekes says St. Lucia needs to pay more attention to its local artistes so they can move forward in their careers. This is Weekes’ third album – the video for “Rain Rain” will be aired on HTS – the single played on Radio 100.
