Taj Weekes – nouvel album
Taj Weekes – new album
Police violence / death of George Floyd / Black Live Matter movement / pandemic / containment measures / covid-19: From tragedies to crises, the world has experienced many upheavals in recent years. Indeed these pushing the people to unite and gather in the streets because of fatal blows, the prohibition to group together, this to the point of isolating them at home by measures of the various governments. the whole world has been given a mandatory Pause, leaving many professional universes in the background such as the music industry with a very uncertain future.
We suspected that this period would inspire many of our reggae artists and we were delighted that Taj Weekes would come up with a new project entitled Pause.
Official Pause release on August 9
Available on all platforms
If you are interested in his lyrics, his career, his projects, his human and personal involvement, we quickly realize that Taj Weekes is much more than a reggae singer. Social activist, poet, humanist, his songs reflect this strong, gentle and conscious identity. Armed with his pen, Taj Weekes offers us in his works and his incisive texts, veracity as hard as it is, a fair look at the world of today.
In early 2020, the singer saw himself as everyone else locked in his home and saw like his colleagues, his canceled concerts and tours leaving the music world at a standstill. Taj Weekes did not give up and took the opportunity to take a look at this new world in full social, cultural, economic, etc …
His team to compose this Pause is now called Winston “Horseman” Williams, Kwame Heshimu Mark Dann, Victor “Ticklah” Axelrod, Rich Lamb, Jonathan Fritz and Dub Sonic Orchestra and brings to the texts of Taj Weekes a more intense, richer dimension with mixing work is also for a lot. Well done !
From social movement, the singer knows what he is talking about. The singer roamed the streets in the Black Live Matter movement following the death of George Floyd in the conditions we all now know. We had also relayed last June the title “Rebel” by Taj Weekes that this event had mobilized and pushed to write.
Starting this article with a reflection of these different crises that the world is going through takes us to the one that seems to last, to resume, to fade, then to leave and to make our leaders do or say anything especially: That of covid-19 .
Pause is meant to reflect all this political silliness that many peoples have to face. This message translates very well in the first excerpt released in July and titled “Crisis” where Taj Weekes approaches the shortcomings and social differences due to this pandemic crisis alongside Angela, his wife. Title that we find at the end of the project in a Fine Young Mix version which gives a more impactful aspect to this strong piece. And of strong message, it is question from the beginning with “Bang Bang”. For this track Taj Weekes has surrounded himself with Quino (Big Mountain) and his soft voice to deal with the social unrest and inconsistency that Trump has shown during this crisis and his tenure.
