Continuing the theme of the weekend, we’ll have featured Austin Reggae Fest Performers, Taj Weekes & Adowaand Radio La Chusma live and direct in the club on Friday Night! Weekes is often described as an enigma… on the one hand deeply serious and intensely passionate about his world views and on the other hand a gentle and humble man with a quick and easy smile. Driven to inspire conscious thought and provoke discussion through his poignant poetry and lyrics, Weekes says, “I write from the heart and I speak about issues that move me. I believe that’s what really matters.”
Weekes and his band Adowa unite a true social consciousness with an unforgettable reggae groove. Blending in elements of acoustic roots rock and afro-folk simplicity, the band’s vibrant sound defies genre and has garnered critical acclaim and a wide audience across the globe.
Radio la Chusma makes this a double bill to die for as their border-world-beat sound are quickly becoming a cultural phenomenon in the American Southwest. A funky mix of traditional roots reggae infused with Mesoamerican Afro-beats, this high energy group seamlessly breaks down cultural, artistic and even political barriers using highly danceable music tied to their borderland as melting-pot mantra. Featuring four-part vocal harmonies and electrifying vocal, violin and guitar solos.
