Taj Weekes & Adowa Perform at the Dark ‘n Stormy Benefit for Hudson River Community Sailing

New York is a harbor city—but it’s not often that city kids can pursue after-school activities on the water. Hudson River Community Sailing is trying to change that.

This organization develops leadership in underserved youth through maritime education and recreation, helping urban youngsters get their “sea legs.” Next week, it’s holding a benefit in support of its programs—and Gilt City members are invited to attend with VIP tickets.

Famed racer and event host Tom Ehman will take attendees through the excitement of the 34th America’s Cup, the storied sailing tournament that will come to San Francisco Bay in 2013. After the talk, you’ll head to The Frying Pan for the fourth annual Dark ’n Stormy party, featuring a performance by reggae artists Taj Weekes & Adowa.

Talk about sailing away…

Why We Love This

  • Hudson River Community Sailing founder Bill Bahen established the organization to expose underprivileged children to the great outdoors. “It’s a way to enlighten them,” he tells New York Times of the nonprofit’s mentoring programs.
  • You’ll celebrate the America’s Cup (coming to San Francisco in 2013) and support HRCS’s programs at a lively cocktail party on Pier 66.
  • Founded in 1851, the America’s Cup is the oldest active trophy in international sport. The 34th edition will pit the Golden Gate Yacht Club against the Italian Club Nautico di Roma.
