The thing is called Pause, apparently because the name should reflect what the restrictions imposed on COVID – 19 meant or could mean for each one of us. But that was a pause in his submission during which he had time to write and record things they met on the board. Unlike many others (get who you want), where the quality of things that were created during the lockdown was quite affected by the absence of contact with the audience and with anyone in general. But this is not Taj’s case. At all. It’s up to him to know that he has so much in him that he can literally scatter it. And that’s good. He can convey the feeling of having a break and it doesn’t matter what bothers you or increases your blood pressure.
It’s easy to recognize. As soon as you let it go, you will catch yourself nodding to the beat after a while. And gradually the variety increases (which changes the pace of walking and the way you nod your head). I don’t know if it’s because Taj is from the Caribbean island of St. Lucia, so what he plays is for St. Lucia. Lucia as a calypso for Trinidad, or is just as good. He’s there, of course, but at times you hear as if reggae from the Sinéad O´Connor album, other times it’s a bit of a rockabilly spice or a bigbeat or even a country. But it’s still good. And exactly when this happens to you, you are already inside. You can almost say that it has definitely sucked you out. Your head is nodding, it wants to close your eyes and enjoy yourself – that’s right, PAUSE! The quality of the musicians is definitely a factor in that (for example, as they had to be at home, it was not so difficult to find them on strings, and it was possible to arrange a lot of absolutely great people who would not have time otherwise – I don’t know). To sum it up, there is only one thing that will guide you, and that is when the record is over. Fortunately, if you don’t want flashlights or a total blackout, you can play it again and again… and again. The pause is simply nice and will give you, among other things, time to find a lot of other things on this record (not to mention the lyrics). Yeah, and something else. Use this pause to infect everyone else you value. Have a nice day and be good!
… Even today I listen to it for the third time (I don’t always have a break at work, but thanks to Taj it works).
