Saint Lucia Set To Command World Stage For Jazz 2011

From: One Caribbean

Saint Lucia is expected to once again command world attention when the historic 20th Edition of the renowned Saint Lucia Jazz sounds off in two weeks time. Main organizer the Saint Lucia Tourist Board (SLTB) is reveling in the keen interest being expressed by hundreds of potential patrons as exemplified by early tickets sales. Press coverage has also been extensive in the major markets and the 2011 lineup has come in for high praise.

SLTB officials say even with constant innovation, top rated performers and significant improvements in the event, they have aimed to keep ticket prices affordable. Director of Tourism Louis Lewis says, “This deliberate policy coupled with Early Bird Specials and other discount packages, have allowed as many patrons as possible to participate in the experience of Saint Lucia Jazz.”

Louis says “as we move deeper into the final month, production activities, media engagements and other preparatory work for Saint Lucia Jazz are to reach a fever pitch.” According to him, “the festival has received significant exposure in the international media and so we are anticipating a good turnout this year.”

Saint Lucia Jazz 2011 features a slew of Grammy winning and nominated artistes. Headlined by nine (9) time Grammy winner John Legend, other names include pop idol R&B sensation Trey Songz, Chuck Brown, Regina Carter, Maceo Parker, Carimi and Morgan Heritage.

For the first time in its 20 year history Saint Lucia Jazz will feature the largest cadre of national acts on main stage like Augustin “Jab” Duplessis featuring Derede Williams, Allison Marquis & Eclectic Pan Jazz, Mervyn Wilkinson, The Saint Lucia Collective and Taj Weekes.

Saint Lucia Jazz begins April 30 and culminates on May 8.
