Reggae Beats, Roots Rock Kick Off 12th Mt. Helena Music Festival

Eliza Wiley, Independent Record – Taj Weekes gets after it on the guitar during the opening act for the 12th Annual Mount Helena Music Festival. Weekes is highly regarded as a visionary musician, songwriter, poet and humanitarian of the reggae music world. Adult weekend passes are $18 in advance, or $22 at the gate; $12 for a day pass, $7 youth (ages 8-14); and children 7 and under are free, if accompanied by a paying adult. The festival, which opened Friday,  continues with nine music acts today, ranging from reggae to rockabilly to blues.

Roots rock band Indigenous, with Mato Ninji, a  visionary and spirited group from South Dakota’s Nakota Nation, is the headline act for the festival. They perform at 9 p.m. today. All music is at Women’s Park at the corner of Fuller and Neill avenues in downtown Helena.
