Taj Weekes is a reggae musician, songwriter and poet from the Caribbean island of St. Lucia. The Government of St Lucia has appointed him Goodwill Ambassador, Goodwill Ambassador and the title of His Excellency. Taj Weeke’s seventh studio album was released in August 2021: Pause.

Taj Weekes wrote 35 songs during the pandemic, 10 of which ended up on the current album Pause, and two more albums are to follow. The writing process was basically the same, Taj Weekes wrote the songs on his own so far. But the fact that he only met the backround singers in the studio and the musicians did everything from a distance was a clear difference to the production of his previous six albums. The forced break from touring and many other things was the inspiration for the album title: Pause.

Taj Weekes is still very active, activism and music are inseparable for him, he is involved in many charity projects, is Champion for Children at Unicef and brought 5,000 pairs of shoes to Ghana in September 2021, according to the motto “We should not come with empty hands “.

Taj Weekes already came into contact with music in the circle of his family: people sang at home and in church, he still does that today, whether on stage or in the car, before a tour, always three hours a day for stamina. He got to know the Rasta philosophy through his brothers and also had to witness the state repression against those who wear dreadlocks.

Taj calls this imprint “weight of the past”, he honors the origins, knows where everything comes from. Unfortunately, this is not the case with all reggae acts in the USA, it is often simply about the money.
