TOCOPAWS kicks off 3rd biannual spay/neuter campaign

Castries, October 14, 2016; The 3rd round of spay/neuter clinics spearheaded by TOCO Foundation commence from Friday October 14th and will run for four days at the James Belgrave Court Marchand Grounds.

 

The aim of the campaign is contribute to reducing the population of stray dogs around the island, and to assist low income families wishing to take action to address this problem in their communities.  Not including Monday, this round of clinics will run daily from 9:30 AM -5:30 PM from Friday October 14 to Tuesday October 18th inclusive.

 

A team of twenty (20) international and local volunteers are on the ground for this purpose. Among the eight (8) Vets on the team is Saint Lucian Veterinarian Dr. Jenny Cenac, who has been integral in the process of sustaining the campaign at the local level. To date three clinics have been held in the Island’s southwestern region and in Gros Islet in the north treating a combined total of close to 900 animals. Both Soufriere and Gros Islet support popular tourist attractions, but also carried high populations of stray dogs in particular.

 

This third phase of the Spay/Neuter Clinic is sponsored by TOCOPAWS, the animal wing of Taj and Angela Weekes’ TOCO Foundation with support from HTS, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Youth & Sports, Saint Lucia Animal Protection Society (SLAPS), Villa Capri, Dominoes Pizza, Rituals, The Reef, Coco Palm & Coconut Bay resorts.
